Is there a connection between happiness and kindness?
Happiness is deeper than a smile. Every person thinks of happiness differently than others and have different concepts about the feeling. The definition of happiness varies as do the people. For some people, happiness can be as simple as having a proper, complete meal in a day and for others, it could be buying a shiny new sports car. We hope for everyone reading this blog, you feel happy when you help those around you.
Happiness relates to inner calm and peace. Achieving something or buying something can never be enough. Happiness can be truly acquired by complete inner peace, which means when you feel good inside. You do something or say something that feels right to you on the inside. Kindness is one of the many words for it. Kindness is not something you are born with, just like evil is not something you are born with. Both of them can grow their roots in you depending on your experiences and the people you surround yourself with.
Kindness can be expressed by actions- buying someone a meal of the day, helping someone with their homework, assignment or tests, celebrating their achievement with someone, building a person’s confidence (before a meeting or presentation), telling someone they look beautiful or even just smiling at someone. Smiles are contagious so when someone smile at you, you feel the need to return it. This is the same as the feeling of happiness. When you make someone else happy, it makes you happy.
Dalai Lama quoted, ‘When we feel love and kindness towards others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for but it helps also to develop inner happiness and peace’. This is how happiness relates to the kindness, they both are deeply connected to each other.
